Driving Rules in Palau

Visit the pristine beaches and diving sites of Palau! This fantastic Micronesian island is awaiting for you. This is the perfect destination for activities and relaxing getaway. Be sure to check these reminders before heading out. Palau drives on the right, and you can drive on the licence of your home country for 30 days after which you must apply for a Palauan driver’s license. That’s the official guidance but I’ve not heard of anyone who’s had to apply for one. I doubt anyone would check if you’d been driving in Palau for over a month. The maximum speed limit is 40kmh and the maximum blood alcohol level allowed is 0.01%.   

Important Reminders:

• Traffic moves on the right side of the road.
• The minimum driving age is 18 years old. 
• The minimum age to rent is 21 years old.
• Seat belts are a must for ALL passengers.
• Hands-free is a must. Keep your phones away unless they are hands-free. Otherwise, you will be fined!   
• Avoid drinking and driving. The blood alcohol limit is 10 mg per 100 ml of blood.
• You are not allowed to overtake!
• Be sure to rent a four-wheel drive vehicle.

Driving in Palau in the Rainy Season
