Why carry an IDP while driving in Bolivia?
Your IDP is a valid form of identification in more than 150 countries worldwide and contains your name, photo and driver information in the 12 most widely spoken languages in the world – it is understandable to most of the local officials and authorities of the countries you visit.
It translates your identification information into 12 languages — so it speaks the language even if you don’t. Bolivia highly recommends an International Driving Permit.

Additional Information For Driving in Bhutan:
Quality of roads varies a lot throughout the whole of Bolivia. At first, I was surprised, how good the roads are, and then I found out it’s not a common rule. Roads can be shitty, especially in the more distant and less frequent mountain areas. It can happen very fast, that a nice and new asphalt road turns out of nowhere into a dirt road with huge holes. Many roads are also under reconstruction and you have to take a detour on very dusty and ugly road.
Driving in Bolivia during Winter:
Bolivia is a warm so there is no winter here. However, you need to be extra cautious driving during rainy season. Roads may be flooded and slippery. Do not travel from June to October. Any other time of the year, you are good!
Enjoy your stay and have a safe travel.
