Important Reminders:

• International driving permits and national driving licenses are invalid in Maldives.
• You need to obtain a local driver’s license in order to legally drive in Maldives and the minimum driving age is 18 years old. 
• While driving, a driver and all passengers in the car must wear seat belts.
• Children from 4 to 12 years of age cannot be transported in the front seats unless they have appropriate seat restraints.
• Hands-free is a must. Keep your phones away unless they are hands-free.   
• Avoid drinking and driving and avoid driving at night in unknown areas.
• Roads are small and you can only drive in main cities. A small compact car or a bike will be more convenient to use.
• Pay full attention to the traffic signals and maintain a decent speed of driving. Don’t drive rash. .
• Even the pedestrians need to observe the road rules of road crossing & walking on the pavement.
• People driving two wheelers should make it a point to wear protective helmets.
