Why carry an IDP while driving in Norway?

Driving Rules in Norway
To drive in Norway, foreign visitors need a valid driver license issued by the country of their residence and an International driving license. Important Reminders:
- Traffic moves on the right side of the road.
- The minimum driving age is 18 years old.

- The speed limit is 30 km/h in residential areas and 50 km/h in built up areas and 80-90 km/hr on expressways.
- Watch out all the yellow diamond sign in Norway.
- Unless indicated by signs, vehicles approaching an intersection from the right have the right of way.
- Trams always have the right of way and should be passed on the right.
- Pedestrians always have the right of way at marked pedestrian crossings.
- It is illegal to carry a child less than 5 years of age on a moped or motorcycle.
- Mobile phones must not be used while driving.
- The legal limit is 20 milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood. This is very low and therefore the simple rule of thumb is not to drink any alcohol whatsoever if you will be driving. Be wary of medications that may cause you to fail a breathalyser test, which are marked with a red triangle.
Driving in Norway During Winter:
Norway has a long winter season and many roads are covered by ice or hard snow for months.
