Why carry an IDP while driving in Angola?
Your IDP is a valid form of identification in more than 150 countries worldwide and contains your name, photo and driver information in the 12 most widely spoken languages in the world – it is understandable to most of the local officials and authorities of the countries you visit.
It translates your identification information into 12 languages — so it speaks the language even if you don’t. Angola highly recommends an International Driving Permit.

Additional information for driving in Angola
In Angola, road conditions vary outside its capital. During the rainy season from October to March, driving is dangerous since potholes and erosion can be on the roads; some roads are impassable during that time. Tourists from the United States can drive in Angola using their domestic driver licenses for one month only. During this month they should apply for an Angolan driving permit. There are no toll roads in Angola. The driver should have the following documents: the identity card or passport, driver license, and certificate of insurance.
Speed limits for driving in Angola
The speed limit within urban areas is 60 kph, while the speed limit for rural areas is 100 kph. Vehicles without trailers are limited to 60 kph in built-up areas, 90 kph outside of built-up areas, 100 kph on open road car or motorcycle lanes, and 120 kph on highways. Angola does not have fixed speed cameras, but the police have mobile speed traps set up anywhere, most likely targeting rental cars rather than locals. So it is best to stick to the speed limits even if other cars around you seem to go over them.
