Important Reminders For Driving in Brunei:
- Brunei is a right-hand drive country.
- The minimum driving age is 18 years old. The minimum rental age is 25 years old.
- Seat belts are a must.
- Hands-free is a must..
- Drink responsibly. The maximum blood alcohol level is 50 mg per 100 ml of blood.
- The speed limit is 60 km/h in urban areas and 80 km/h in most expressways.
- Do not use tinted window cars.
Additional Information For Driving in Brunei:
Always proceed with caution and adhere to the speed limit: 15 miles per hour (mph) in school zones, 30 mph in business or residential areas and 55 mph on the highways unless road conditions (weather, traffic or accidents) require slower speeds.
Speed limits are posted clearly on signs alongside highways and all major roads.
Traveling beyond the posted speed limit is against the law and drivers are subject to fines in access of $200.00. Traffic police with hidden cameras and Enforcement Officers from the Anti-Accident Unit of the Land Transport Department will be patrolling the roads to detect any traffic offenses.
Driving in Brunei during Winter:
Brunei has no winter. However, driving during rainy season is a challenge. Be sure to have your emergency kits handy. Avoid travelling from June to October as well.
